Gary Neville encourages Manchester United to have patience with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following Sunday's 2-0 defeat to West Ham United.

Gary Neville has insisted that Manchester United must keep their faith in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following the club's poor start to the 2019-20 season.

United once again came in for heavy criticism following a 2-0 defeat to West Ham United during which the visitors were devoid of tempo or invention in their play.

The defeat means that United have only won five of their last 16 games in all competitions, bringing into question the Norwegian's credentials at this level.

Reflecting on the question of whether Solskjaer is fit for the United job, Neville told Sky Sports News: "The job as a board is to supply the manager with players that can win and Manchester United haven't done that for eight years now.

"They have put the money in but they have not put a strategy around it and haven't put the same sort of methodology behind it. If they had this methodology of sticking with young and emerging English players eight years ago, then Manchester United would probably be in a good place now.

"United jumped off the David Moyes track and the Louis van Gaal track. They jumped off the Jose Mourinho track but they can't jump off the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer track. They can't just keep jumping off track."

The Red Devils are without an away win since a famous 3-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain, which signalled the moment when United's results started to decline.

Rio Ferdinand, speaking with fans after the game, also called on the club's board and support to keep their faith in Solskjaer's project at Old Trafford.
