Anthony Martial 'unaware of number change'

A report claims that Anthony Martial was not informed that he would be giving up the number nine shirt at Manchester United this season.

Anthony Martial was reportedly not informed that he would be giving up the number nine shirt at Manchester United this season for new signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Martial, who joined Man United from AS Monaco last summer, took the famous number from Radamel Falcao and enjoyed an impressive first season at the club, scoring 17 times in 49 appearances in all competitions.

It was revealed last week that Ibrahimovic would wear the number nine for Man United next term, while Martial would change to number 11, which previously belonged to Adnan Januzaj.

However, according to RMC Sport, Martial was not aware that he would be changing numbers this season, with the club acting without informing the 20-year-old of their plans.

Martial is currently on holiday after representing France at Euro 2016. He is expected to link up with his club when they return to Europe to face Turkish giants Galatasaray on June 30.
