Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says that the club will not pay over the odds for players during the January transfer window.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has suggested that the club will not pay over the odds for any player during the January transfer window.

The Merseyside giants have been linked with a number of players ahead of the first month of 2017, but the German has indicated that he will not strengthen his squad if it involves shelling out more money than he deems necessary.

The 49-year-old told reporters: "If there's something for us and it makes sense and is possible. If a club doesn't need money, we have no chance.

"We don't want to convince players with money. We want to have players that are ready to develop. It's not a message for the winter window, it's a message for the next few years. We have already good players, but they are welcome. Nothing new about this, if something happens, I call you. If not, don't be surprised."

Liverpool - who currently sit in second place in the Premier League table - spent almost £62m during the summer.
