Liverpool release a statement on their website saying the club are "surprised and disappointed" by the FA's decision to find Luis Suarez guilty of racism.

Liverpool have issued a statement saying they are "surprised and disappointed" by the Football Association's decision to find Luis Suarez guilty of racism.

An independent regulatory commission found the Uruguayan frontman guilty of racially abusing Patrice Evra and handed down an eight-match ban and £40,000 fine.

The statement, issued on the club's website, read: "Liverpool Football Club is very surprised and disappointed with the decision of the Football Association Commission to find Luis Suarez guilty of the charges against him.

"We look forward to the publication of the Commission's Judgment. We will study the detailed reasons of the Commission once they become available, but reserve our right to appeal or take any other course of action we feel appropriate with regards to this situation."

The Anfield club maintained their belief that Suarez has been wrongly charged and accused the FA of not giving him a fair say, adding: "The FA were determined to bring charges against Luis Suarez, even before interviewing him at the beginning of November."

They have been given two weeks to appeal the decision.
