Lucas Leiva insists that Brendan Rodgers can return Liverpool to the top, given time.

Midfielder Lucas Leiva has insisted that Brendan Rodgers's Liverpool have all the ingredients needed to succeed.

Lucas stated that Rodgers must be given time for his philosophy and ideas for the club to work in order to take them "back to the top".

"We can see what they have in mind, in terms of taking the club back to the top," he told BBC Sport.

"A lot of players came in and a lot of players left, so it's not easy really. When you see the teams that fight at the top, they have players that play for many years for the club and they know each other.

"I think Brendan is trying to build a competitive squad and a good team for the future. I think it's going to work and hopefully sooner rather than later."

Liverpool currently sit eighth in the Premier League, 10 points off the Champions League spots.
