Liverpool announce a pre-season friendly against Preston North End to mark the 100th anniversary of Bill Shankly's birth.

Liverpool have announced that they will play Preston North End in a pre-season friendly to mark the 100th anniversary of Bill Shankly's birth.

Shankly, who played for Preston before becoming one of Liverpool's greatest managers, will be remembered by both sets of fans in a clash at Deepdale on July 13.

"As Liverpool manager, the inspirational Scot created one of football's greatest and most successful dynasties at Anfield," said a statement on the club's official website.

"The man from Glenbuck is revered at Preston too, having spent the vast majority of his playing career with the Lancashire outfit across 16 years."

Shankly guided Liverpool to three league titles, two FA Cup triumphs and one UEFA Cup.
