Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish says that Luis Suarez has the full backing of the club as the striker prepares to contest against his FA charge.

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has refused to be pressed regarding the racism charge on striker Luis Suarez.

The Uruguay international is expected to contest the Football Association's charge over alleged racist comments directed towards Manchester United defender Patrice Evra.

During a press conference at Melwood today, the Reds boss reiterated the club's stance that the frontman has the full backing of the Merseyside club.

"I think the statement says everything and our position has changed in no way shape or form," said Dalglish. "That is all I've got to say."

Meanwhile, the Scotsman could not reveal a set date for skipper Steven Gerrard's return to action after suffering an infection in his right ankle.

"Steven is progressing brilliantly," he added. "There is nothing that's been a disappointment other than he's not been available for selection.

"He'll be available as and when he's over what he's got but everything's going really well. We couldn't ask for more or any greater news from him."

Jamie Carragher is in contention to feature for Liverpool against Chelsea this weekend after overcoming a calf strain.
