The Attorney General states his intention to appeal to the High Court to have the original verdicts of the Hillsborough disaster quashed.

The Attorney General Dominic Grieve has confirmed that he has lodged an appeal with the High Court to overturn to original verdicts into the Hillsborough disaster.

At present, the death of 96 Liverpool supporters in April 1989 is still classed as "accidental".

However, following a recent report into the tragedy that found that a cover up had taken place in order to shift the blame to victims, Grieve believes that there is now enough evidence for a review to take place.

"I believe that the case for the High Court to quash the original inquests is a good one," he said.

"My application has now been lodged with the Court. It is my intention to appear to argue the case at the hearing that will take place in the High Court."

All of the families that lost someone that afternoon have been consulted and support the application.
