Italian trio in fitness fight

Italy trio Giorgio Chiellini, Ignazio Abate and Daniele De Rossi should return for Thursday's Euro 2012 semi-final clash with Germany.

Italy trio Giorgio Chiellini, Ignazio Abate and Daniele De Rossi should all be fit for their Euro 2012 semi-final clash with Germany on Thursday.

Chiellini missed the quarter-final win over England with a hamstring injury, while Abate and De Rossi were substituted during their penalty victory.

However, national team doctor Enrico Castellacci has revealed that he is hopeful that all three will be fit to play.

"Abate had a left hamstring muscle strain and is taking all appropriate physiotherapy. The same goes for De Rossi, who suffers from sciatica in the left leg and is being treated," he told reporters.

"Chiellini is following the program to perfect recovery and is progressing. It reminds me a bit of [Gennaro] Gattuso in 2006, that thanks to his stubbornness he was able to overcome from some physical problems."

Spain and Portugal will contest the other semi-final.
