New Ipswich signing Ryan Stevenson says he is "glad" to get away from Edinburgh club Hearts and their Russian owners.

New Ipswich Town signing Ryan Stevenson has said that he is "glad" to have left Hearts after a difficult spell with the Edinburgh club.

The 27-year-old had not featured for the club since December after a dispute over unpaid wages and was seeking a move away.

He finalised a move to Suffolk on Monday and is looking to get back to full fitness and play a role in keeping struggling Ipswich in the Championship.

"The circumstances have been difficult at Hearts," the forward, who can also play in midfield, told BBC Radio Suffolk.

"The owner's a Russian millionaire and these guys aren't smart, they do what they want."

Stevenson added that he felt moving to Ipswich was not a step down from the Scottish Premier League, revealing that his wife is pregnant and that settling down is a main priority.

"It's difficult and I'm glad that I'm out and down to a club of this size," Stevenson added.

"My wife's pregnant and she's due in six weeks. It was a bad couple of months for everybody involved at Hearts.

"I haven't played for just over a month so it will take a wee while to get back to full fitness. But if the manager calls upon me I'll be ready."

Stevenson's new club are 19th in England's second tier but dismantled league leaders West Ham 5-1 on Tuesday.
