Former West Ham, Newcastle and Chelsea striker Demba Ba suffers a potentially career-ending broken leg while playing in the Chinese Super League.

Former Chelsea striker Demba Ba has suffered a potentially career-ending broken leg while playing for Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua.

The 31-year-old went down after a challenge with a player from local rivals Shanghai SIPG, with his left leg breaking beneath the knee on his way to the ground.

The Senegal international is now expected to spend a number of months on the sidelines, and Shenhua manager Gregorio Manzano admitted that he may never play again.

"It could end his professional career," Manzano is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

Ba, who played in the Premier League for West Ham United and Newcastle United as well as Chelsea, moved to China from Besiktas last summer.
