Johnny Heitinga turns down fresh Everton contract

Johnny Heitinga reveals that he has turned down a contract offer to stay at Everton.

Johnny Heitinga has revealed that he has rejected a new contract offer from Everton as he remains uncertain on his future.

The 29-year-old suggested this week that he could be on the way out of Goodison Park this summer due to the lack of first-team football being offered to him.

While the defender is unsure of where he will be playing football by the time of the new campaign, Heitinga has claimed that he will have to speak to the club's new manager.

"Everton came with a proposal, but I decided not to sign," Heitinga told Goal.com. "The club did not say that I have to leave this summer. I have a contract until 2014. I am 29 years old now and I want to play more often.

"For the moment I will come to Liverpool for the start of pre-season. That's no punishment. We will get a new manager this summer. I don't know his vision on the game. Maybe he says, 'John must stay'. I also don't know what the chairman wants."

Heitinga has been an Everton player since 2009.
