Steward fills in for injured ref

A football steward gets more than he bargained for while on duty at a Scottish First Division game as he is called upon to replace an injured ref.

A football steward stepped up to become a match official in a game in the Scottish First Division today.

The referee in Dunfermline's match against Cowdenbeath was injured during the first half, leaving the fixture short of one official.

Jock Campbell volunteered to take over the linesman duty while the previous linesman refereed the rest of the match.

The search for a replacement official took 30 minutes at half time before Campbell, 61, was appointed.

The G4S worker is reportedly a qualified ref and regularly officiates Sunday league matches.

The game ended 3-0 to Dunfermline as they retained their spot at the top of the league.
