Dwight Gayle: "It's unbelievable how far I've come"

Crystal Palace striker Dwight Gayle admits that he still cannot believe that he is playing in the Premier League after rising from the semi-pros in just three years.

Crystal Palace striker Dwight Gayle has admitted that he still cannot believe that he is playing in the Premier League after guiding his side to their first win.

Gayle netted a crucial penalty to score his first goal of the season in Ian Holloway's team's 3-1 win over Sunderland at Selhurst Park.

He told The Mirror: "I was relieved as well as ecstatic to get the goal, the win and the three points. I was playing at Stansted three years ago. That's one of the lowest semi-pro levels.

"If you'd have told me then I would be playing in the Premier League, I would have laughed. It's just unbelievable how far I've come, I just need to keep it going.

"I dreamed about scoring in the Premier League but I never thought it was going to happen to be fair. I'd given up on the dream. I'm glad to have done it now."

Palace have taken three points from their opening three games this season.
