Former Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli reportedly planned to lodge a bid to bring Fernando Torres back to the club from Chelsea last season before getting sacked.

Liverpool reportedly planned to launch a bid to bring back striker Fernando Torres to Anfield last season.

The Spain international, who moved to Stamford Bridge from Merseyside last year for £50m, raised concerns over his Chelsea future following a tumultuous season at the West London club.

It is believed that the Reds' former director of football Damien Comolli outlined an approach to bring the 28-year-old back to the club but failed to enforce his plan after being sacked by the American owners, according to the Daily Mail.

Despite Torres's suggestions that he was considering leaving Chelsea, the Spaniard has since settled back into the side and has emerged as manager Roberto Di Matteo's first-team striker following the departure of Didier Drogba.
