Bayern Munich manager Jupp Heynckes says that his team's demolition of Hoffenheim has boosted their confidence.

Under-fire Bayern Munich manager Jupp Heynckes has said that his team's 7-1 demolition of Hoffenheim will do wonders for their confidence.

The 66-year-old hopes to overturn a one-goal deficit against FC Basel in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie at the Allianz Arena tonight.

Heynckes has said that his team's emphatic win on Saturday is an ominous sign for their Swiss opponents.

"[The win at the weekend] will give us a push for [Basel]. We know we have to make good a one-goal deficit," said Heynckes. "I'm very confident because the game against Hoffenheim came at the right time.

"You have to play these kinds of games again and again over the course of your career. It's what makes football interesting. Basel won't make it as easy for us as Hoffenheim did.

"This win comes just at the right time. It should give us the enthusiasm necessary to turn the result around."

Bayern currently trail first-placed Borussia Dortmund by five points at the top of the Bundesliga.
