Paul Lambert insists that Aston Villa will not sell Christian Benteke in January as the 22-year-old is part of their long-term plan.

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has said that striker Christian Benteke will not leave during the January transfer window.

The 22-year-old Belgium international has scored eight goals in all competitions for the Villans so far this season.

"What's the point in [selling Benteke]?" Lambert told reporters. "We're trying to build something here which can take a few years and you need good players with you to achieve that.

"There's no point in them coming for half a season or a year and then we let them go. That's not the right way."

Benteke joined Villa from Genk in August 2012.
