Ciaran Clark irked by Southampton equaliser

Ciaran Clark admits his disappointment that Aston Villa could not protect their lead in the 1-1 draw with Southampton.

Aston Villa defender Ciaran Clark has expressed his disappointment with tonight's 1-1 home draw with Southampton.

Paul Lambert's side had looked on course for their first win in eight Premier League outings when Gabriel Agbonlahor fired the hosts ahead just before the half-hour mark.

However, Villa, whose last victory came in September, saw their winless streak extended when Nathaniel Clyne struck an 80th-minute equaliser past Brad Guzan.

"Before the game we would have taken a point, but to be winning for so long it's disappointing to not win in the end," Clark, who was named man of the match, told Sky Sports News.

"As a team we defended well but it was disappointing to concede so late.

"I thought we did well as a unit and we needed to put in a performance that we did and hopefully we can take that in to the game with Burnley on Saturday."

The Villans moved above Hull City into 16th place in the table, two points clear of the relegation zone.
