Aston Villa defender Philippe Senderos facing lengthy layoff

Aston Villa defender Philippe Senderos is expected to be out of action "for some time" after suffering a thigh injury while playing for Switzerland.

Aston Villa defender Philippe Senderos is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a thigh injury while on international duty.

The 29-year-old picked up the problem on Thursday during Switzerland's 1-0 defeat to Slovenia in Euro 2016 qualifying.

Senderos is now expected to miss Villa's trip to Everton in the Premier League this weekend.

"Philippe has a thigh muscle strain. We'll have to see how it reacts," Swiss team doctor Cuno Wetzel is quoted as saying by the Birmingham Mail. "Normally a player is out of action for some time with a muscle injury of this type."

Senderos has made eight appearances for Villa this season after joining the club from Valencia over the summer.
