Arsenal reportedly demand that Jack Wilshere undergo a full medical before they agree to offer him a new contract.

Arsenal have reportedly informed Jack Wilshere that he must undertake and pass a full medical in order to earn a new long-term contract with the club.

The 26-year-old is out of contract at the Emirates at the end of the current campaign and while it initially appeared that he could be set to leave, his renewed form in recent months has put him in a strong position to earn a new deal.

The Gunners are said to have adopted a tough stance over his potential new terms, however, due to the player's unimpressive injury record that has seen him spend a total of more than 1,000 days on the sidelines in the last seven years.

Reports in recent days have suggested that the England international will have to accept a 20% pay cut under the new deal, albeit with the potential to earn more should he stay fit and get a regular run in the side.

According to a report in The Sun today, Arsenal are also demanding that Wilshere undertake a full medical before they sign on the dotted line.

"The club want Jack to stay but have to make sure he is over the problems he has suffered over the past few years," a source told the newspaper. "If Jack was to join another club he would have to go through a full medical. So this is nothing different from what would happen elsewhere.

"The wages offered reflect a player who has been injured a lot. Obviously, if he continues to perform over the long-term then improved terms can be offered at a later date."

Wilshere has been part of the Arsenal setup since the age of nine.
