Petr Cech reveals why he left Chelsea for Arsenal

Petr Cech cites manager Arsene Wenger as one of the main reasons behind his decision to swap Chelsea for Arsenal.

Petr Cech has revealed that sharing a similar ambition to manager Arsene Wenger was among the reasons why he swapped Chelsea for Arsenal this week.

The veteran goalkeeper made a controversial switch across London to the Blues' rivals on Monday after owner Roman Abramovich sanctioned his £10m move.

The 33-year-old helped Chelsea to four Premier League titles as well as a host of other honours before Abramovich saw fit to grant him his wish to join the Gunners.

Cech has now revealed the reasons behind his decision to join the North Londoners and says that the presence of Wenger - who is entering his 19th season as boss - was a big draw for him.

"You have to admire his consistency, the calibre of his work [and] what he has done since he came to Arsenal," the Czech keeper told the club's official website.

"He is valued at Arsenal for the right reasons. Being in his position for such a long time is very rare, you saw it at Manchester United [with Sir Alex Ferguson] and at Arsenal but you don't really see it anywhere else.

"When I spoke with him it was very important for me to know that I see things in pretty much the same way, with the desire to improve and to get better and to win things."

Cech is expected to make his competitive debut when Arsenal host West Ham United on August 8 for their first Premier League game of the 2015-16 season.
