Algeria donate prize money to Gaza citizens

The Algerian squad will donate their World Cup prize money to the troubled citizens of Gaza, according to Islam Slimani.

Algeria's national team have decided to donate their World Cup prize money to the people of Gaza, according to Islam Slimani.

The squad are expected to be awarded close to £5.25m for their performances in Brazil, but will give the money to the troubled citizens of the Gaza strip as the crisis between Israel and Palestine continues to escalate.

"They need it more than us," Slimani revealed to Dutch daily newspaper Algemeen Dagblad after the squad arrived to a warm reception in Algiers yesterday.

A Palestinian flag could be seen on Algeria's team bus yesterday as they were greeted by supporters on a tour through the nation's capital city.

Algeria's campaign finished on Tuesday with a 2-1 defeat to Germany in extra time.
