Nuremberg, Schalke share spoils

Nuremberg and Schalke play out a goalless draw in the Bundesliga.

Schalke have been held to a goalless draw by Nuremberg away from home in the Bundesliga.

The first chance of the contest fell to Hiroshi Kiyotake, whose shot on target was turned away by goalkeeper Ralf Fahrmann.

Daniel Ginczek had two chances for the hosts in quick succession, before Kiyotake again came close midway through the first half.

Schalke's first real opportunity came just before the half-hour mark when Jermaine Jones was released by Adam Szalai, but his right-footed effort from close range went wide.

Moments later Nuremberg's Makoto Hasebe had a long-range shot parried away by Fahrmann, who also denied Ginczek five minutes before the half-time interval.

Nuremberg continued to dominate proceedings in the second half as Josip Drmic and Timothy Chandler both had chances to break the deadlock at Grundig-Stadion.

The hosts came closest to opening the scoring 14 minutes from time when Per Nilsson rattled the Schalke crossbar with a header after connecting with Kiyotake's delivery.

Schalke stepped up their game in the latter stages of the contest as Jefferson Farfan put Nuremberg goalkeeper Raphael Schafer under pressure twice in quick succession, but both teams had to settle for a share of the spoils.
