Queens Park Rangers boss Harry Redknapp backs Charlie Austin for England call

QPR boss Harry Redknapp says that Charlie Austin is bound to win an England cap sooner or later if he maintain his goalscoring form.

Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp believes that it is only a matter of time before striker Charlie Austin fires his way to an England call-up.

Austin has struck five times in nine outings for Rangers this season but failed to make the Three Lions squad for upcoming internationals with Slovenia and Scotland.

The 25-year-old has never earned a senior cap for his country, but Redknapp claims that a debut is not far away providing he continues in the same vein.

"Charlie's improving and, if he keeps scoring goals, there's no reason why he can't [get an England call] in the future," he told reporters.

"He's a great lad, good attitude, not a minute's problem and he enjoys being a footballer. He's had it the hard way and I think he realises just how fortunate he is to be doing what he does.

"If he keeps scoring goals and improving his game, there's no reason he can't make the breakthrough."
