Hubert Fournier: 'Rafael signing provides important reinforcement'

Lyon coach Hubert Fournier talks up the qualities of newcomer Rafael after the full-back recently completed his switch from Manchester United.

Lyon boss Hubert Fournier has stated that new signing Rafael will provide the club with some "important reinforcement" following his move from Manchester United.

The 25-year-old full-back switched to the Ligue 1 side on a four-year deal having spent eight years at United, and Fournier has insisted that the Brazilian will bring a number of important qualities to the club.

"We were following Rafael for a long time. He's a very talented player and was much loved by the Manchester United fans," the coach told the club's official website.

"He's an important reinforcement, especially given the busy schedule we will have from September onwards.

"He can play on the left of defence and even sometimes higher up the pitch. His profile corresponds with OL's attacking philosophy."

Rafael claimed three Premier League titles while serving at Old Trafford.
