Victor Lindelof says that he is determined to work his way back into the Manchester United side under his former Benfica teammate Ruben Amorim.

Victor Lindelof has said that he is determined to work his way back into the Manchester United starting side, with the Sweden international preparing to reunite with Ruben Amorim.

The centre-back played alongside Amorim at Benfica back in October 2013, and the Portuguese has now become Man United's new head coach, with his contract beginning last week.

There is currently a host of speculation surrounding Lindelof's future, with the 30-year-old's contract due to expire at the end of the campaign, and he is widely expected to leave on a free transfer.

Lindelof has made seven appearances for the Red Devils this season, but he has only played 58 minutes of Premier League football during the 2024-25 campaign.

AC Milan advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic has suggested that the Swede could make the move to San Siro next year, while a number of other European clubs are said to be keeping an eye on his situation.

However, Lindelof has said that he is not currently thinking about his future, with the centre-back only focusing on working his way back into the starting side at Old Trafford.

Lindelof was absent in the early stages of the campaign due to a toe problem, but he has been involved in four of Man United's last five Premier League matches off the bench.

"This is not something I think about," Lindelof told Fotbolldirekt. "My focus has been to come back from the injury and play football again. But of course, there will be writings now what will happen when I am in my last year.

"My goal is always to help the team. Now I have come back, made 90 minutes at United which has been very nice. It's a different situation for me now."

Lindelof was also asked about Amorim, having played alongside the new Man United head coach at Benfica.

"I was young at the time, and we didn't have a relationship outside of football, but I've heard great things about him as a coach. It will be great to meet him again. It's been many years since we played together," he added.

Should Man United keep Lindelof?

Lindelof has made 266 appearances for Man United since arriving from Benfica in 2017, but it would be fair to say that he has largely struggled to show his best form for the Red Devils.

Amorim is expected to switch to a back three, but Lindelof is still firmly down the pecking order, with Lisandro Martinez, Matthijs de Ligt, Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans likely to all be ahead of him in the thoughts of the new manager.

Lindelof needs to be playing regularly at this stage of his career, so it is best for both parties to cut ties next summer, and the Swede is unlikely to be short of options considering his pedigree.
