Cambridge United chief executive Jez George has confirmed that Rory Gaffney is likely to leave the club on loan in the near future.
The 25-year-old joined the U's from Limerick in January, but a foot injury has prevented the striker from making his debut for the League Two outfit.
However, with his rehabilitation almost complete, George has revealed that plans have been put in place for the striker to be loaned out.
"After the transfer window closes, it may well be beneficial to him to get some minutes elsewhere just simply because it's been so long since he has played," he told the Cambridge Evening News.
"We're in the position of looking to manage players for the long term and the short term to see what's best."
Gaffney is contracted to Cambridge until the end of the season.
