Lionel Messi fails to report for coronavirus testing with Barcelona, leaving him out of contention to resume training with the Catalan giants.

Lionel Messi has failed to attend coronavirus testing with Barcelona, subsequently ruling him out of a return to training.

Having informed the Catalan giants that he wishes to leave this summer, speculation persists regarding the next move of each relevant party.

At a time when no firm decision has been made over a price tag, the 33-year-old was due to attend a coronavirus check at the club's training facilities.

However, the Argentine was not present on Sunday, a decision which means that he will not be able to participate in Ronald Koeman's first session on Monday.

Messi allegedly informed Barcelona officials that he would be taking such action earlier this week.

With the player keen on a reunion with Pep Guardiola, Manchester City are the favourites to sign the superstar over the coming weeks.
