Liverpool head coach Arne Slot will look to achieve a rare feat when the Premier League leaders face Manchester United in Sunday's clash at Anfield.

Arne Slot will attempt to pull off a feat that no Liverpool manager has achieved in 88 years when the Reds take on rivals Manchester United in Sunday's Premier League clash.

Slot will be proud of his team's efforts in his first 18 matches as a Premier League manager, having seen his side record 14 victories, three draws and just one defeat.

As a result of that impressive record, Liverpool begin the new year with a six-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.

The Reds will carry significant momentum into Sunday's clash with Man United after winning their final four competitive matches of 2024, including a commanding 5-0 victory in their most recent outing against West Ham United.

That result extended Liverpool's unbeaten run to 23 matches in all competitions, meaning that it is over three-and-a-half months since they lost 1-0 to Nottingham Forest in September.

Arne Slot targeting rare feat against Man United

Slot will head into Liverpool's first game of the new year with the chance to do something that no Liverpool manager has done in 88 years.

After overseeing a 3-0 victory in the reverse fixture against Man United, the Dutchman has the opportunity to become the second Liverpool manager to complete a league double over the Red Devils in his first season with the club.

As it stands, George Kay is the only Liverpool manager to have achieved the feat, overseeing a 5-2 away win and 2-0 home victory over Man United in the 1936-1937 season.

Slot may fancy his chances of following in Kay's footsteps, especially as Liverpool have won four of their last six Premier League home games against Man United.

Salah looking to continue red-hot form

Liverpool's talisman Mohamed Salah will likely play a key role if the Reds are to claim all three points at Anfield.

Salah has scored in all but four of his 18 league appearances this season, netting 17 top-flight goals to put himself three strikes clear at the top of the Premier League scoring charts.

The Egypt international has also registered 13 Premier League assists this term - three more than any other player in the top flight.

Incidentally, Salah scored one goal and provided two assists in September's reverse fixture against Man United at Old Trafford.

In total, the 32-year-old has racked up 15 goals and six assists in his 16 competitive appearances against the Red Devils.
