Preview: Everton Women vs. West Ham United Women - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Women's Super League clash between Everton Women and West Ham United Women, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Everton Women and West Ham United Women will now look to claim their first Women's Super League win of the season when they go head-to-head on Sunday.

The Toffees are propping up the standings, while the Hammers are hovering above the relegation spot on goals scored.

Everton experienced a disappointing start to the season, losing their opening two league matches against Brighton & Hove Albion and Manchester United.

They then played out a 1-1 draw in their Women's League Cup clash against Newcastle United, before they won the subsequent penalty shootout to clinch the bonus point.

The Toffees may still be winless, but they would have taken confidence from last Sunday's goalless draw against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

They produced a strong defensive display to claim their first clean sheet of the season, although the result ensured that they are still the only side to score in the WSL this term.

Everton will hope to discover a cutting edge in Sunday's meeting with West Ham as they go in search of a fourth consecutive head-to-head victory.

West Ham are now winless in 12 WSL matches after taking just one point from their first three league games of the 2024-25 season.

The Hammers fell to a heavy 3-0 defeat in their WSL opener against Manchester United, before they scored late on to salvage a 1-1 draw from their home clash with Liverpool.

They went on to showcase their top-flight quality in a dominant 6-1 win over second-tier Portsmouth in their first group game of the Women's Super League.

However, West Ham were unable to build upon that result in their recent outing against potential WSL title contenders, with Lauren Hemp and Mary Fowler grabbing a goal apiece to condemn the Hammers to a 2-0 defeat, representing their sixth loss in the last seven away league games.

West Ham's hopes of claiming their second away league win of 2024 will be tempered by the fact that they have not beaten Everton in an away match since October 2018.

Team News

Everton defender Elise Stenevik will be sidelined until around Christmas after suffering a hamstring injury against Arsenal.

The Toffees are also without Aurora Galli, Inma Gabarro and Kenzie Weir, with the trio all sidelined with anterior cruciate ligament injuries.

Karen Holmgaard is continuing to work her way back to full fitness, but the Denmark international is not expected to be ready for the weekend.

Meanwhile, West Ham boss Rehanne Skinner has confirmed that midfielder Kristie Mewis will miss Sunday's game with a calf injury.

Defender Kirsty Smith will feature in the matchday squad after missing the first four matches of the season with a shoulder problem.

Seraina Piubel was introduced as a half-time substitute against Man City, and the summer signing could be given the chance to make her first WSL start.

Everton Women possible starting lineup:

We say: Everton Women 2-1 West Ham United Women

We expect the contest to be a close-fought encounter between two sides who will view the fixture as a great opportunity to clinch all three points.

Everton have won each of their last three meetings against West Ham, and we think that they may continue that run, especially as the visitors have lost six of their previous seven WSL away matches.
