Wakefield Trinity Wildcats ease past Castleford Tigers

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats take a comfortable win over Castleford Tigers in the Super League.

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have taken a comfortable 37-16 win over Castleford Tigers in the Super League this evening.

The visitors dominated the first 40 minutes, taking a commanding 25-0 lead into half time thanks to tries from Tim Smith, Danny Kirmond, Peter Fox, Richard Mathers.

Castleford made a strong start to the second half as they looked to overturn the Wildcats' advantage.

Jordan Thompson scored a brace in the opening seven minutes of the second period to get the home side back into the match, before Richard Owen added a third for Tigers with 15 minutes still to play.

However, the Wildcats rediscovered their form from the first half, sending Lee Smith over for the team's sixth try of the game.

There were worrying scenes towards the end of the match as fans were evacuated from part of the stadium, with the ground's announcer advising the crowd that the stand was unsafe, resulting in the referee ending the game early.
