Wolverhampton Wanderers coach Sam Ricketts named Wrexham boss

Wolverhampton Wanderers confirm that Under-16s coach Sam Ricketts has left the club to become the new manager of National League side Wrexham.

Wrexham have appointed former Wales international Sam Ricketts as the club's new manager.

Earlier this season, Dean Keates left the National League club to return to Walsall and like with Keates, Wrexham have opted to give a former player his first role in management.

Ricketts ended his playing career in November 2016 and has been working as coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers' Under-16s side while taking his coaching badges.

The West Midlands outfit have confirmed that they have allowed Ricketts to make the switch to North Wales to begin preparations ahead of the next campaign.

The 36-year-old has been handed a three-year contract at the Dragons, who have spent the last decade at the fifth tier of English football.
