Gareth Bale considered England over Wales for 'one second'

Gareth Bale says that he considered representing England for just one second before pledging his international future to the country of his birth Wales.

Gareth Bale has revealed that he needed only one second to pledge his international allegiances to Wales after England came calling for his services.

The Real Madrid ace inspired his country to Euro 2016 qualification after netting 10 times as Chris Coleman's men finished second behind Belgium in Group B.

It will mark Wales's first major tournament since the 1958 World Cup, and Bale, who was eligible for the Three Lions via his grandmother, says that it was not even a decision.

"I was really young at the time and my agent was involved, but it was literally a one-second conversation," he told The Mirror. "I just said, 'Stop - it's never going to happen.'

"I'm from Wales and I love Wales. Everyone knows how much I love playing for Wales. My grandmother is English, but I'm Welsh and that's it. It was never an option."

Wales rounded off their campaign with a 2-0 win over Andorra.
