Preview: Torino vs. Udinese - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's Serie A clash between Torino and Udinese, including team news and predicted lineups.

Two sides badly out of form and at risk of Serie A relegation meet at the Stadio Olimpico on Tuesday as Torino play host to Udinese.

Torino are winless in seven league matches and are three points above the dropzone, level on points with a Udinese side who are themselves without a win in seven outings.

Match preview

Torino may be winless in seven, but they did at least bring an end to a six match losing streak on Saturday with a 1-1 draw against Parma.

Juraj Kucka cancelled out Nicolas N'Koulou's opener, but the strugglers squandered a great chance to claim all three points as Andrea Belotti missed a second-half penalty.

The point does at least leave Il Toro three points clear of the bottom three with 12 matches to play, starting with Tuesday's huge showdown against fellow out-of-form side Udinese.

While Torino have taken one point from the last 21 on offer, Udinese have taken four from the same number of matches.

The Bianconeri drew four matches in a row prior to the coronavirus-enforced shutdown - only once in their history have they registered a longer such run - most recently playing out a stalemate with Fiorentina on March 8.

Luca Gotti, placed in caretaker charge in November, will know the importance of turning draws into wins if his side are to climb clear of danger.

However, the visitors have picked up only nine points away from home this season, which is the worst return in the Italian top flight.

Udinese have also managed just 21 goals home and away this term - their lowest total at this stage of a Serie A campaign since 1986-87, when they were relegated.

The White and Blacks did prevail in the reverse fixture eight months ago thanks to Stefano Okaka's first-half goal, but that is the only time they have got the better of Torino in their last eight league games.

Team News

Udinese are without former Watford defender Sebastian Prodl for Tuesday's match because of a knee injury.

Jens Stryger Larsen is carrying a wrist injury, meanwhile, but is expected to play through the pain barrier until the end of the season.

Okaka, on target in the reverse fixture, and four-goal Kevin Lasagna are likely to lead the line for the visitors.

Torino are hopeful of having Cristian Ansaldi and Simone Verdi back from calf and thigh injuries respectively.

Central midfielder Daniele Baselli is Longo's only confirmed absentee, having sprained the ligaments in his right knee.

Belotti has scored four goals against Udinese in Serie A, although none has arrived in his last three games against them.

Torino possible starting lineup:
Sirigu; De Silvestri, Izzo, Nkoulou, Bremer; Edera, Meite, Rincon, Aina; Zaza, Belotti

Udinese possible starting lineup:
Musso; Stryger-Larsen, Becao, Troost-Ekong, Nuytinck, Sema; De Paul, Mandragora, Fofana; Okaka, Lasagna

We say: Torino 1-1 Udinese

Both sides badly struggled for wins before the three-month hiatus, and Torino picked up from where they left off with Saturday's draw against Parma. Three points will be the target for the struggling sides, but we are expecting the spoils to be shared.
