Half-Time Report: Jonny Howson fires Norwich City ahead at Rotherham United

Jonny Howson gives Norwich City the lead away to Rotherham United in the Capital One Cup second round.

Jonny Howson's first-half strike has put Premier League side Norwich City on their way to their way to victory in the second round of the Capital One Cup at Rotherham United.

The Canaries, who have Ricky van Wolfswinkel starting for the first time this season, looked to make a bright start as Andre Wisdom cut inside from the right flank, but his left-footed shot flew well over Adam Collin's bar.

On 22 minutes, Rotherham came close to taking a shock lead when Jonson Clarke-Harris's header needed to be kept out by Declan Rudd.

However, it was Norwich who took the lead moments later as a fast counter-attack from the visitors presented Howson with the chance to shoot from the edge of the area and his effort beat Collin low down to his right.

The Millers tried to find an instant response, with Emmanuel Ledesma's strike from distance bringing out another stop from Rudd before Norwich's second-choice keeper got up to deny Lewis Buxton's follow-up attempt.

Steve Evans's men continued to push for a way back into the tie, but Clarke-Harris was again thwarted by the City stopper as the Premier League outfit kept their noses in front.
