Rangers owner Craig Whyte is to sue the BBC over allegations made in a documentary about the businessman's past.

Rangers owner Craig Whyte has begun proceedings to sue the BBC after they aired a documentary which questioned the businessman's past.

The programme, which was shown on Thursday night, investigated Whyte's business dealings before he took over at Ibrox in May.

"Craig Whyte strenuously refutes these unfounded and defamatory allegations and has instructed his lawyers, Carter Ruck, to commence immediate legal proceedings against the BBC," said a spokesman for Whyte.

"Any repetition of these false accusations will also be met with legal action."

Meanwhile, Gers boss Ally McCoist has said that he fully supports the club's owner.
