Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink "absolutely gutted" with late defeat

Queens Park Rangers boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink says that his team's late 2-1 defeat to Hull City in the Championship left him "absolutely gutted".

Queens Park Rangers boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has revealed his disappointment after his side conceded late on to lose 2-1 at home to Hull City in the Championship on New Year's Day.

A late Sebastian Polter effort looked to be securing a share of the spoils for QPR, who had cancelled out a strike from Abel Hernandez just past the hour. The visitors won it in the 90th minute, however, when Adama Diomande poked home from inside the box.

It is now six league games without a win for the R's, and Hasselbaink has admitted that the result at Loftus Road has left him "absolutely gutted".

"I am absolutely gutted with the result, but I can't do anything about it now. It wasn't a match that we deserved to lose. It wasn't a classic – we matched each other, especially in the first half," he told the club's official website.

"When they opened the scoring I thought we could have got a free-kick, but we didn't. Still you have to defend it properly. They've got good players who can punish you and they did. We came back really well and levelled with a really good goal from Polter – and at that stage we looked like we were going to go on and win, we were the team on top.

"But then it's dangerous as well and the goal was a big misunderstanding and we got punished. We have to move on and continue to work hard on the training ground."

QPR remain 15th in the Championship table, 10 points off the playoff positions.
