Norwich City slumped to their first defeat of their pre-season tour of the USA courtesy of a 1-0 loss to the San Jose Earthquakes during the early hours of this morning.

The Premier League outfit were on the backfoot from the first whistle and fell behind with just seven minutes on the clock.

Full-back Russell Martin committed an error and Cordell Cato took full advantage to slot the ball underneath Mark Bunn in the Norwich goal.

Norwich midfielders Anthony Pilkington and Jonny Howson both tested home goalkeeper David Bingham from distance before the break, but on each occasion he was equal to their efforts.

Leroy Fer was given his Norwich debut during the second half, but despite a positive showing, the Dutch midfielder was unable to inspire his new club to salvage a share of the spoils.

The Canaries will now take on the Portland Timbers on Wednesday.
