Joel Glazer to overrule Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Anthony Martial future?

Manchester United co-chairman Joel Glazer reportedly regards Anthony Martial as the club's "Pele" and will block any attempts to sell him this summer.

Manchester United co-chairman Joel Glazer has reportedly overruled manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on a decision regarding the future of Anthony Martial.

Martial made just nine Premier League starts under Solskjaer following his appointment as caretaker boss in December, with the most recent of those being the 4-0 defeat to Everton in April.

The Norwegian is understood to have been willing to let the 23-year-old leave Old Trafford after questions over his attitude in training and matches persisted from the Jose Mourinho era.

However, The Mirror reports that Martial is Joel Glazer's favourite player, with the chairman even referring to him as the club's "Pele".

Glazer and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward are also understood to have blocked the Frenchman's exit last summer despite then-manager Mourinho being desperate to get rid of him.

Martial put pen to paper on a new four-and-a-half-year contract worth £200,000 per week in January, committing his future to the club until 2023.

However, he has scored just two goals in 13 appearances for United since then and ended the campaign with 12 goals in 38 outings across all competitions.
