Italy boss Roberto Mancini turns down the chance to become Manchester United's new manager, according to a report.

Manchester United reportedly contacted Roberto Mancini to discuss the managerial role at Old Trafford but were informed that he was not interested at this moment in time.

The Red Devils are currently searching for an interim head coach to lead the team for the remainder of the 2021-22 campaign, having sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the weekend.

However, the 20-time English champions are still thought to be open to appointing a long-term boss in the coming weeks if the right candidate becomes available.

According to journalist Christian Falk, Man United recently contacted Mancini, who managed Manchester City between 2009 and 2013, winning the Premier League and FA Cup during his time with the Citizens.

However, the 56-year-old rejected the approach, as he is currently fully focused on helping Italy secure qualification for the 2022 World Cup.

Mancini led the Blues to the Euro 2020 crown, but the national team finished second in their World Cup qualification group, which has left them needing to negotiate their way through the playoffs in order to book their spot at next year's finals.
