A report claims that Manchester United are still furious with Diego Godin's conduct, having allegedly used interest from the club to secure a new Atletico Madrid deal.

Manchester United are reportedly still furious with Diego Godin after the centre-back used the club to secure a new deal with Atletico Madrid.

The Uruguay international emerged as a late target for the Red Devils on transfer deadline day as it became known that he had an £18m buyout clause in his existing deal.

According to The Mirror, United not only triggered that clause but also readied a private jet to bring the defender to England before the cut-off point for deals to go through.

However, the plane was cancelled after Godin informed them that Atletico had offered him a two-year contract extension, taking his wages to £130,000 a week.

Jose Mourinho was unable to bring in any of his other defensive targets, causing a friction between the Portuguese and his bosses, and the report suggests that Godin's failed switch is largely to blame.

United head to Burnley on Sunday afternoon aiming to recover from back-to-back defeats in the Premier League.
