David Beckham: 'Manchester United won't suffer fall like Liverpool'

Former Manchester United star David Beckham has no concerns that the club will suffer a major slump like arch rivals Liverpool.

The Red Devils had consistent success during Sir Alex Ferguson's 26-year reign at Old Trafford, but since his retirement in 2013, the team have struggled at times.

Ferguson's successor David Moyes lasted just nine months in the job after dropping to seventh in the Premier League with the team.

Current manager Louis van Gaal guided United back into the Champions League last season, but there is pressure to win silverware.

Liverpool dominated English football decades ago, but they are no longer regular title contenders and have not won a trophy since their League Cup win in 2012.

"I can't see that happening to Manchester United," Beckham told reporters. "I never think we'll not be in contention to win trophies because there is too much history.

"Obviously, you have to stay on the ball with that, but there's too much embedded into this club to let it slip away like that."

United are third in the table, two points adrift of Manchester City after eight games.
