Vincent Kompany: 'Squad competition has made Manchester City better'

Vincent Kompany claims that the fear of being dropped is helping his team to enjoy a strong start to the new Premier League campaign.

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has admitted that any out-of-form players will be immediately replaced as they enjoy a 100% start to the Premier League.

The former champions have made a stellar beginning to the new campaign with three straight wins without conceding a goal, and sit alone at the top of the table.

However, the 29-year-old has warned that no player's place in the team is currently safe.

"This is one of the reasons we have started so strong. You can't really afford to do anything wrong during the week leading up to the game," he is quoted as saying by The Mirror.

"Then during the game, you can't do anything wrong either as there is always someone looking over your shoulder, waiting, who is just as good as you.

"If they are in a better moment, and they deserve a chance, they will take your place. You have got to be at the top of your game. This is what you are seeing - a group of guys who know that they need to perform. If they don't, someone else will do it."

City host Premier League newcomers Watford on Saturday.
