Teenage midfielder Gavi - linked with Liverpool and Manchester City - is close to signing a new long-term contract at Barcelona, according to a report.

Teenage midfielder Gavi is reportedly on the verge of signing a new long-term contract at Barcelona.

The 17-year-old has made the breakthrough into the Catalan outfit's first team this season, featuring on 36 occasions in all competitions, contributing two goals and five assists in the process.

There has been a host of speculation surrounding the Spain international's future in recent months, though, as his current deal at Camp Nou is due to expire in June 2023.

Manchester City and Liverpool are both believed to be prepared to offer Gavi a large salary to move to the Premier League.

However, according to 90min, the Premier League duo have been informed that the teenager is set to sign a new long-term contract with Barcelona.

The report claims that Gavi's fresh deal will have a release clause of €1bn (£840m), and he will become one of the highest-paid teenagers in world football.

The Spaniard has scored twice and contributed five assists in 25 La Liga appearances this season, and he played the final 16 minutes of Sunday's 1-0 win over Sevilla at Camp Nou.
