Good afternoon and welcome to Sports Mole's live text coverage of the FA Cup third-round clash between Liverpool and Everton from Anfield. Everton have incredibly not overcome their Merseyside rivals since 2010, while the Toffees have not been victorious at Anfield in any competition since September 1999. As expected, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has rung the changes for this match with only two players – Joe Gomez and James Milner – keeping their spots from the Sheffield United clash on January 2. The big news is that there is a debut for recent arrival Takumi Minamino, while Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones, Nathanial Phillips and Pedro Chirivella are among those to earn starts.

As for Everton, head coach Carlo Ancelotti has made just the two changes to the side that started against Manchester City on New Year's Day with Morgan Schneiderlin and Theo Walcott coming in for Fabian Delph and Tom Davies. Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison have impressed in the final third since Ancelotti's arrival and keep their spots in attack.

The Reds won the last of their seven FA Cups in 2006, while the Toffees, who have lifted the trophy on five occasions, last triumphed in 1995. Kickoff in the derby is next here!

KICKOFF:  Liverpool kick things off at Anfield...

... there is no question that Ancelotti has selected a stronger side than Klopp, and Everton might not get a better chance for some time to overcome their rivals. A number of Liverpool youngsters found it difficult against Aston Villa in the EFL Cup last month.

Everton's formation appears to be changing a fair bit in these early moments; it looked to be a 4-4-2 at kickoff, but Walcott is almost playing off Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin here. The visitors have made a positive start to this FA Cup tie as they threaten early on.

Elliott threatens down the right for the home side as he skips past Digne, but the teenager cannot find a teammate with his cross. Still goalless with six on the clock here.

SAVE!  Huge save from Adrian as the Liverpool goalkeeper keeps out a powerful strike from Calvert-Lewin, who had reacted first after smart work from Walcott through the middle.

Not an awful lot happening at the moment to be honest; both teams are having bits and pieces of the ball but neither is threatening to make the breakthrough. If you have just joined us then Everton have already had two big chances through Calvert-Lewin and Holgate.

Larouci has just shown good ability to turn away from Walcott and play a pass down the line which will do his confidence no harm at all. Everton attempt to fashion something moments later through Richarlison, but Phillips is across to make a strong challenge.

SHOT!  Lallana fires well over the Everton goal from distance.

Larouci again does well to race down the left and challenge Coleman, but the Everton defender just about does enough under pressure. Still goalless with 23 minutes played here.

Liverpool are the team on the front foot at the moment, but the home side are still waiting for their first serious chance of the match. Lallana has just broken into a dangerous area, only for Holgate to come across and make a smart challenge.

Elliott delivers another corner into the Everton box during a strong period for the home side, but Williams sees his strike from outside the box deflected wide of the post.

Little over 15 minutes of the first period remaining, and it has been a fairly even match. Everton have had the best two chances, although Liverpool will feel that they have had better control of the possession, especially in the last 10 minutes or so.

All things considered, it has been an entertaining first 32 minutes of football. Liverpool's youngsters can be pleased with how they have performed, although Everton really should have scored at least once having had three big chances to make the breakthrough.

Walcott delivers a dangerous cross towards Calvert-Lewin, but the striker cannot make proper contact. Liverpool's defence was again all over the place it must be said.

Little over 10 minutes of the first half remaining, and we are goalless at Anfield. The home side have just broken into the Everton box through Minamino, but Holgate came across to make the challenge before Jones struck wide of the post moments later.

CHANCE!  Big chance for the home side to take the lead as Minamino meets a cross from Origi, but the January signing sees his effort just move wide of the far post!

You do get the feeling that the first goal - if there indeed is one - will be crucial here. Everton have had some excellent chances, but Liverpool are on the front foot at the moment.

Lallana almost heads a Walcott cross into the back of his own net but just places the ball wide of the post. Lallana is now wearing the armband after Milner's early withdrawal.

Liverpool threaten late in the half with a corner from Chirivella, but Holgate is on hand to make the clearance. It has been an open and entertaining first period here.

We are into the first of two additional minutes at the end of the first period.

Walcott finds Richarlison inside the Liverpool box, but the Brazilian is closed out at the final moment. The attacker then fires over from a narrow angle moments later.

HALF TIME:  LIVERPOOL 0-0 EVERTON

So there we have it. The referee brings the first period to a close with the two teams level at 0-0. Liverpool have had control of the ball for long spells, but Everton have had some outstanding chances to make the breakthrough. Adrian in the home side's goal has perhaps been the star player in the derby having made three excellent saves.

STATISTICS! Liverpool had 56% of the ball in the first period, while they managed six attempts but just one of those was on target. Everton had eight attempts in the opening 45 minutes, with three of those testing Adrian. There has not actually been a single yellow card in the opening half, though, and it has not really been that type of contest here.

BENCH WATCH! Everton have a lot of attacking talent on their bench this afternoon with the likes of Bernard, Davies, Delph and Kean all capable of making a difference in the second period. Liverpool, meanwhile, have options in the shape of Brewster, Mane and Oxlade-Chamberlain, although the hosts have already made one change with Larouci replacing Milner.

... neither manager has made a change at the interval, which is not too much of a surprise. However, you suspect that both Klopp and Ancelotti will have alterations in mind.

Not too much to report in the last few minutes, but Liverpool are the team on the front foot as they make ground down the Everton right through Elliott and Williams.

Everton are struggling to get out of their own half at the moment as Calvert-Lewin has to head behind for a corner with Phillips threatening to meet a deep Lallana free kick.

Mina and Pickford get in a bit of a mess inside their own box, but the away side manage to clear their lines before breaking down the other end. Richarlison threatens to strike one towards goal inside the box, only for Chirivella to come across and challenge.

Little over 30 minutes of the second period remaining, and we are still waiting for the first goal. There will be a replay if these two teams cannot be separated at Anfield.

YELLOW CARD!  Digne (Everton) is booked for a tug on Elliott.

Everton are struggling to make their mark at the moment with Walcott again losing the ball in the final third. Ancelotti's side have been disappointing since the break here.

Everton want to make their first change of the match with Delph set to enter, but the ball has actually not gone out of play for some time now. Still Delph waits on the touchline.

Kean is still waiting for his first Everton goal, and it would be some story if the teenager scored the winner in this match. Little over 25 minutes of football remaining at Anfield.

Not too much happening in terms of chances at the moment; just a reminder that this will go to a replay if neither side scores in the next 20 minutes or so.

Oxlade-Chamberlain is on the Liverpool bench this afternoon, and it would not be a surprise to see the England international at some point before full-time. Everton are struggling to get things going at the moment as the clock continues to tick on.

Not too much in the way of a response from Everton in the last few minutes, which will disappoint their fans. It will be a huge opportunity missed if the Toffees cannot find a route back into this contest in the final 15 minutes or so.

Everton are just not hurting the home side at the moment, with Liverpool looking like the team capable of scoring the game's second goal. The Toffees have to respond here.

Ancelotti watches on from the touchline, and the Italian is cutting a frustrated figure here as Liverpool continue to keep the ball. It just has to be better from the visitors.

Pickford delivers a free kick deep into the Liverpool box, but the home side manage to clear their lines before winning a throw when Digne deflects the ball out of play.

I should not imagine that there will be too much in the way of added time as the second half has passed without major incident aside from the goal. We will soon find out...

Half-chance for Kean, but the striker was falling backwards when he met a cross and his effort was always rising over the crossbar. Liverpool are almost there.
