Zinedine Zidane is still waiting on the France national team job amid links of a appointment at Paris Saint-Germain, according to a report.

Zinedine Zidane has put a potential appointment at Paris Saint-Germain on hold due to his desire to take the France national team job, according to a report.

The World Cup winner has long been linked with a return to his native France to takeover the nine-time Ligue 1 champions, with the possibility of replacing Mauricio Pochettino in the summer arising in recent weeks.

However, according to RMC Sport, the 49-year-old's preference is to hold out for Didier Deschamps's job as manager of the national side instead.

Deschamps is currently set to lead France to the 2022 World Cup tournament in Qatar in December, and according to the report, should his stay be extended beyond the finals, Zidane's mind could be changed.

The former Real Madrid boss has already turned down the job at PSG on numerous occasions reportedly, with their Qatari owners willing to offer him around €12m (£10.1m) net salary, as well as providing him with full control over transfer dealings by pushing current sporting director Leonardo to one side.

Zidane has been out of work since leaving Real Madrid in June 2021, which was his second stint in charge in the Spanish capital.
