England are drawn against rivals Germany and Euro 2020 conquerors Italy in 2022-23 UEFA Nations League group stage, while Spain and Portugal will face off.

England have been drawn against rivals Germany and Italy in the 2022-23 UEFA Nations League group stage.

The Three Lions were in pot three of League A for the draw, meaning that they were guaranteed to face two of the top-ranked sides in world football.

Gareth Southgate's men will now renew hostilities with Germany, whom they beat in the last 16 of Euro 2020 during the summer en route to the final.

However, the team that then beat them in that final at Wembley also stand in their way, with Italy once again out to deny England a first piece of international silverware since 1966.

England have won just one of their last nine meetings with Italy stretching back to 1997.

Hungary make up League A Group 3, giving them another chance to end a 15-match, 60-year winless run against England.

League A Group 2 sees an enticing Iberian battle between Spain and Portugal, with Switzerland and Czech Republic also drawn in that pool, while holders and world champions France will take on Denmark, Croatia and Austria.

Wales will renew acquaintances with the world's number-one ranked side Belgium, having been drawn alongside them, Netherlands and Poland in League A Group 4.

Scotland and Republic of Ireland have been drawn against each other in League B Group 1 - a pool which also includes Ukraine and Armenia.

League B also contains a Scandinavian showdown between Sweden and Norway in Group 4, with Serbia and Slovenia completing that group.

Meanwhile, Northern Ireland were drawn in League C Group 2 alongside Greece, Kosovo and the winner of a playoff between Cyprus and Estonia.
