Steven Gerrard warns against pressuring young England players

Steven Gerrard warns against putting too much pressure on England's young players ahead of the World Cup in Brazil.

Steven Gerrard has praised the young members in the England's World Cup squad, but has warned that they must not be put under "too much pressure".

The performances of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Ross Barkley were highlights in England's 2-2 draw against Ecuador on Wednesday, but Gerrard has suggested that they must keep their feet on the ground.

"They're loving being out here and they're growing day by day," the England captain told a press conference. "The headache the manager has got is that everyone is capable of playing in his starting 11 and I wouldn't want to be in his shoes when it comes to picking the team.

"It's important we don't put too much pressure on any of the young lads and manage them in the right way.

"Ross [Barkley] is going to be a terrific player but it is important we don't get carried away."

England face Honduras in their final World Cup warm-up game in Miami tomorrow evening.
