Pep Guardiola: 'Lucien Favre resignation a shock'

Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola suggests that Lucien Favre's resignation from Borussia Monchengladbach is a shock, and that the situation could happen to any coach.

Bayern Munich head coach Pep Guardiola has expressed his surprise at Lucien Favre's resignation from Borussia Monchengladbach on Sunday.

Favre - who had been in charge at Gladbach since 2011 - guided the club to a third-place finish in the Bundesliga last season, but stepped down as head coach last weekend after his side had lost their last six fixtures in all competitions, and Guardiola believes that the situation could have happened to any coach.

"I have big respect for Lucien. He is one of the best trainers I have ever met. His case shows how complicated and difficult football really is," Guardiola is quoted as saying by FourFourTwo.

"Yesterday you and your team are great and the day after, although not much has changed - except for [Max] Kruse and [Christoph] Kramer, who were very important of course - you are in big trouble and can't win a game.

"When I see something like this, I guess that also could happen to us."

Gladbach will take on Augsburg in the Bundesliga on Wednesday evening.
