Danny Care will miss England's World Cup campaign due to a toe injury he suffered against Wales on Saturday.

Danny Care has been ruled out of England’s World Cup campaign after suffering a toe injury.

The scrum-half damaged his left toe during England’s 19-9 defeat to Wales at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday.

The 24-year-old is expected to be sidelined for six weeks after undergoing surgery.

"We are all hugely disappointed for Danny who has worked extremely hard and has been an important part of the squad throughout our Rugby World Cup preparations," BBC Sport quotes England boss Martin Johnson as saying.

"He featured in both warm-up fixtures and was on course for selection so this injury is really disappointing for him personally and for us as a squad.

“Nobody wants to see a player ruled out at this stage through injury and we all wish Danny a speedy recovery.”

Johnson will be revealing his 30-man squad for the World Cup on Monday (August 22).
